The Objective
Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts worked with Kitchen Energy Solutions on their goal to increase energy savings in their cafeteria. The challenge presented for this location was due to their multiple large kitchen hoods and exhaust fans moving a high volume of air 24/7.

Medical centers and hospitals are a great opportunity for energy savings in their commercial kitchens due to the long run time hours and quantity of cooking activity taking place. Lahey Hospital was no exception with 4 large kitchen hoods and 4 exhaust fans to move a large quantity of air all day long.

Our team was tasked to determine how energy savings could be achieved with this multiple hood and exhaust fan arrangement.

The Solution
The ECOAZUR® DCKV system was the perfect retrofit solution for the cafeteria at Lahey Hospital, ensuring the fans and makeup air units only turn on and adjust when needed, resulting in continuous energy savings.

The ECOAZUR® standard system utilizing temperature and optic sensors was a perfect retrofit solution for this facility to ensure the exhaust fans and associated makeup air units would be able to modulate based on the varying cooking activity and operate on an as needed basis.

With BACnet communication to the building automation system, bypass variable frequency drives, and a full turnkey installation, ECOAZUR® will be continuously saving energy at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center.
