The Objective
The NBA Headquarters in New York City worked with Kitchen Energy Solutions on their goal to increase energy savings at the cafeteria. The challenge presented for this kitchen was due to their multiple hoods being connected to a single exhaust fan.

In new construction projects in New York City, there are typically space restrictions when it comes to the HVAC system in commercial kitchens. For this reason, many kitchens are designed with one kitchen exhaust fan to serve multiple kitchen hoods. A DCKV system can be difficult to select with this type of design, and a modulating damper system is a must to save energy.

Our team was left to determine how energy savings could be achieved with this multiple hood-single fan layout.

The Solution
ECOAZUR® was the perfect solution for the cafeteria at NBA Headquarters, offering the ability to retrofit modulating dampers on all hoods in combination with the ECOAZUR® optic and temperature sensors, ultimately maximizing the energy savings in their kitchen.

The ECOAZUR® system was the perfect DCKV solution for this commercial kitchen’s design. Since ECOAZUR®’s dampers require no cutting or welding, this allows the system to be installed into any commercial kitchen hood or ductwork. On this particular job site, the duct work design had to change along the way, and ECOAZUR® was able to adapt and utilize its dampers as a balancing solution prior to being set for its energy saving settings.

As a more cost-effective option compared to other systems on the market, the ECOAZUR® system is a slam dunk.
